Best kitchen in a single-family detached custom or remodeled home—over 5,000 square feet

A large house needs a kitchen that can accommodate day-to-day living as well as a space versatile enough to handle formal entertaining. Our judges approved of this project because it meets both requirements.

“The idea was to keep everyday cooking together in one area,” says architect Roger Guernsey. As such, the floor plan has a small but efficient work triangle for everyday cooks, but it also has a butler’s pantry and additional clean-up areas that can serve as a staging area for parties.

Well-placed wall ovens and a second dishwasher facilitate work flow, and a walk-in pantry makes up for the reduction in wall cabinets.
