Project Description

The site for this residential project is directly adjacent to the World Trade Center, a place with a most poignant history. To the chagrin of many, the Trade Center’s new commercial buildings appear opaque and scale-less. In contrast to this ubiquitous and aloof corporate face, we designed a building that embraces a sense of community and optimism. Our building is imagined as a vertical village, a stack of townhouses, separated by perimeter terraces overlooking the neighborhood. A diaphanous skin curves out like giant eyelashes to shade these terraces. High up in the building a triple height indoor/outdoor community space provides magnificent views of lower Manhattan.
