Math achievement 9 percent higher, reading achievement 7 percent higher, behavioral problems 1 percent to 3 percent lower–these are among the benefits for children living in an owned rather than a rented home. A study from Ohio State University published in Real Estate Economics found that living in an owned home even improved the children’s emotional environment. The study cited a 14 percent to 23 percent higher-quality home environment and found the benefits of homeownership multiplied the longer the children lived in owned homes.
