Stephen “Steve” Jones, founder & CEO of Merlin Contracting, Las Vegas, along with his partner and brother, Bart Jones, and the entire Merlin staff are celebrating in the aftermath of winning the 2017 National Custom Home Builder of the Year from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). Sponsored by Sherwin-Williams™, the award was presented during the NAHB International Builders’ show held in Orlando, FL.
The award recognizes honorees for their professionalism, leadership, innovation and creativity in crafting unique custom homes. Jones and the Merlin team were recognized for the company’s craftsmanship and innovation in creating “dream homes” for clients, as well as their integrity and leadership within the local community.
“It’s such an honor for our team to be recognized by the NAHB,” said Jones. “Our goal is always to satisfy our customers’ unique visions with creativity and quality, and this award recognizes the ongoing achievement of that goal. Bart and I couldn’t be more proud of the effort put forth daily by our experienced team of superintendents and entire staff.”
During each of the past six years, Merlin Contracting has completed two custom homes ranging in value from $1.8 million to $10.2 million, as well as averaging six custom remodels ranging in value up to $9.5 million and three custom high-rise unit remodels ranging up to $15.2 million. Several of the projects have been featured in national publications, including the Wall Street Journal and Architectural Digest.
Gary Wilkerson, president of Gary Wilkerson Custom Homes LLC and chairman of the NAHB Custom Builders Committee, acknowledged Jones’ integrity and technique by saying, “Steve likes to say he’s built homes ‘with a handshake rather than a contract’— and that integrity shines through not just in the relationships he establishes with his clients but in the fine craftsmanship that marks his homes.”
