Merit Award: The Golf Club of Purchase

Purchase, N.Y.

1 MIN READ

By Carolyn Weber. With its classic design, one judge compared this stately clubhouse to a Brooks Brothers’ suit. Overlooking a Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course, the exterior architecture reflects the distinctive style of Westchester County, N.Y. The building materials include a natural field stone foundation and walls, and naturally weathered wood shingle walls and roof. Varied roof forms and custom detailing provide the proper scale.

The 25,000-square-foot private club sits beautifully on its 12-acre site. Berms and plantings afford only brief initial views from the entry road. Full views of the building and the Long Island Sound are revealed as members descend a curved driveway to a covered porch.
