Home buyers at all income levels are increasingly interested in purchasing a house with green features. According to preliminary findings in a new study to be published this fall by the U.S. Green Building Council and McGraw-Hill Construction, 70 percent of the buyers surveyed said they were more or much more inclined to buy a green house over a conventional home in a down market. Plus, important for builders to know if they are expanding into remodeling, environmental benefits (lower energy bills or better air quality) was the top reason cited by buyers for remodeling a house, beating out both comfort and improving the appearance of the house. The full report, “The Green Consumer: Driving Demand for Green in Homes,” will be released this fall.
