Minority Rule

Texas is the newest state to become a “majority-minority” state. In August, the U.S. Census Bureau announced that Texas has a minority population of 11.3 million, or 50.2 percent of its total population. Three other states—Hawaii (77 percent), New Mexico (57 percent), and California (56 percent)—also are majority-minority states, as is the District of Columbia (70 percent). Maryland, Mississippi, Georgia, New York, and Arizona all have minority populations of about 40 percent.
