Savannah, Ga., may be more well-known for its southern charm than its roads, but according to the editors of Expansion Management and Transportation & Distribution magazines, it’s the most logistically friendly city in the United States.
The magazines judged 328 metropolitan areas in 10 categories, including transportation, work force, road congestion, taxes, railroads, water ports, and air service. The editors found that the cities that scored the best generally had a broad range of logistics-supporting infrastructure in place and determined that the cities are well-suited for distribution facilities.
The country’s top infrastructure cities include:
1. Savannah, Ga.
2. Louisville, Ky.
3. Nashville, Tenn.
4. Chattanooga, Tenn.
5. Oakland, Calif.
6. Jacksonville, Fla.
7. San Diego, Calif.
8. Los Angeles/Long Beach, Calif.
9. Minneapolis/St. Paul
10. San Francisco, Calif.
Logistical dream: Savannah’s on top with all four of the transportation must-haves: a seaport, international airport, railway, and interstate.
