NIMBYs Reject Lennar

By Matthew Power. Chock up another victory to NIMBY homeowners. When Lennar Homes announced plans to put 160 townhomes on a 23-acre site in Tarpon Springs, Fla., it needed a density-rezoning permit. But local citizens dug in, suggesting the proposed density was too high and wouldn’t fit with the neighborhood. The builder offered to cut the number of units back to 150, but that too was rejected. Fortunately, Lennar’s contract to purchase the land was contingent on the rezoning, so it didn’t have to eat the land costs.
