2012 AIA Housing Awards

Ten residential projects were honored in four categories.

The 12th annual AIA Housing Awards will be presented to 10 deserving projects later this week on the floor of the AIA National Convention in Washington, D.C. Those award-winning dwellings include a variety of housing types such as a seaside courtyard house, a live/work loft, affordable apartments, and a monastery for Jesuit priests. However, they all seem to share strong connections to their sites, consideration for surrounding environments, and conservation of natural resources.

LaFontaine, AIA, of LaFontaine Architecture and Design in Worthington, Ohio, chaired the 2012 jury, which also included: Allison Arieff, The New York Times, San Francisco; Sara E. Caples, AIA, Caples Jefferson Architects, New York; Jerome King, FAIA, The Office of Jerome King, San Jose, Calif.; and Bill Moore, AIA, Sprocket Design Build, Denver.

Honors were awarded in four categories: One/Two Family Custom Housing, One/Two Family Production Housing, Multifamily Housing, and Special Housing. Winning firms will be recognized at 10:30 a.m. on May 19 at booth 2039, the Architect Live Broadcast Center. The 2012 residential architect Design Awards and the AIA/HUD Secretary’s Awards also will be presented at that event.
