Westlake Kitchen

Merit Award: Kitchen in a Custom Home, Over 5,000 square feet

Casual and open-plan, the Westlake Kitchen—on a lakefront property in Austin—looks at once lived-in, rough-hewn, and elegant. Earthy brick walls, rough-hewn ceiling timbers, industrial-type pendant fixtures, a distressed copper range hood, dark wood floors, and high-end stainless appliances evoke a style that some designers refer to as Belgian Modern. The generously sized island and high-low finishes answered the client’s need for an easy-living, handsome kitchen on a moderate budget. For its stylish response to the program requirements, this kitchen earned a Merit Award.
