nfill construction is all the rage with housing and planning experts. A study by the EPA’s Office of Sustainable Communities found that the most active infill markets were San Jose, Calif., New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, where infill makes up more than 50 percent of new housing construction.

Nationally, infill represents approximately 21 percent of new home construction between 2000-2009. Infill varies significantly depending on the market, accounting for just 2 percent of new home construction in Prescott, Ariz., but 80 percent in San Jose, Calif.
