Climate resilience has become a critical consideration in residential construction, accelerating demand for exterior materials engineered to perform in extreme conditions. To meet this growing need in the decking category, Trex Co. recently debuted Trex Refuge, an ignition-resistant PVC decking line for fire-prone regions.
Tested to rigorous standards, it resists ignition and slows flame spread, complying with ASTM E84 Class A Flame Spread and IWUIC ASTM E2768 ignition resistance standards, making it approved for use in fire-prone and WUI-designated areas.
“Fire-rated decking expands where and how builders can design outdoor spaces while helping them differentiate themselves in an increasingly competitive marketplace,” said Adam Zambanini, executive vice president and chief operating officer for Trex. “Trex Refuge allows our partners to deliver elevated outdoor designs that meet higher safety standards without compromise.”
Available in two nature-inspired hues—Martis Valley, a sun-washed beige, and Point Reyes, a misty grey—Refuge boards resist fading, staining, scratching, and warping, reports the company.
