Man-made stone, ersatz metal handrails, and plastic trim were never good enough for the high-end homes built by Wardell Builders’ Ken Underhill, until now. PVC railing and trim by Azek Building Products and replicate-stone veneer by Eldorado Stone look and feel similar enough to real wood, steel, and stone for the builder to spec the cost-effective alternatives in almost every project.

“A lot of times the handrails in the man-made products don’t feel really solid and they don’t have a good texture to them; they look like extruded plastic. But now some actually look heavy and when you knock on them they have a resonance like steel or iron.” Underhill speaks highly of Azek’s latest railing line in particular: “It’s got a nice texture and feel to it, almost like powder-coated metal.”
