Dowell Myers challenges conventional views that define young Americans as perennial city dwellers. His work cautions city planners nationwide that the generation after Millennials is much smaller, which means that if Millennials move to the suburbs as they age, there won’t be as many people to replace them, leading to urban population loss.

Myers recommends providing more parks, affordable childcare, and housing large enough for families in urban areas. He urges city planners not to “get complacent,” about the current popularity of urban living.
