Chris Corson, founder of EcoCor, says it’s well beyond time to change the American construction industry, so he spent the last 10 years leading his company to develop 11 models of Passive houses that are not only built to one of the highest energy-efficient standards in the market but also constructed off-site through a prefabricated system in six to eight months.

The homes feature designs with no thermal bridging, triple-glazed windows, ventilation with heat recovery, leak-proof insulation and sealing, and airtight construction to meet Passive House certification. The smallest cabins start at $140,000, and a larger, four-bedroom home runs $484,000. The Searsmont, Maine-based company designs, manufactures, and assembles the homes in a 14,000-square-foot panelizing shop with materials imported from Sweden. The patent pending foundation and wall design reduces the energy consumption of a building by up to 90%, thus substantially shrinking its carbon footprint and cost of ownership while increasing the home’s comfort.
