The City Health Dashboard is an online tool that measures the health of cities and provides data to make decisions that promote better health outcomes. The mission is to equip cities with a one-stop resource for comprehensive, reliable data to help architects and developers build healthier and more equitable communities. The dashboard will let builders, city planners, and legislators use this data to determine best practices and policies for addressing the challenges—such as like housing affordability–that affect residents’ health in specific neighborhoods. Access to quality housing can drastically improve health, education, job opportunity, economic mobility, and success. The data is based on 36 health measures and the factors that shape them for the country’s 500 largest cities, defined as those with populations of 66,000 or more. Overall, about one-third of the U.S. population is included.

The dashboard lets users dive into each city, breaking down the data by neighborhood and demographic, and provides an in-depth look at the data points for each of the 36 metrics, which are categorized by social and economic factors, physical environment, health behavior, health outcomes, and clinical care.
